Cozy English Mysteries with Dogs, Village Life, and Heart

What makes a perfectly decent person start stabbing out cozy murder mysteries on their keyboard?

In Lucy’s case it was a love of Golden Age Detective stories from the 1930’s, combined with her experience as a reward-based dog trainer.

Here was a way to combine the fun of a gentle mystery with the discipline of a believable story, complete with clues and red herrings - so appealing to her analytical mind - with real dogs doing real doggy things.

Lucy starts with a setting, sprinkles in some characters .. and watches them grow and interact with each other. As a discovery writer, she learns the story along with you as you read it - often not knowing who the culprit is till well into the book!

Some of the people in the books put their heads in the sand and hope it will all go away.

But Lucy’s heroines see that someone has to stand up to bad people - and that ‘someone’ has to be them!

The dogs? They’re crucial to the story.

They don’t judge, they simply do the things they are so brilliantly equipped to do. And using their noses - 40,000 times more effective than ours - is a natural way to go.

They don’t need to be “trained” to do these things - they just have to be allowed and encouraged. They’ll do the rest.

It is one of our great pleasures to snuggle up with a cozy book - and perhaps a cat or a dog - and wander off into a world where everything comes right in the end.

On the way you can laugh, occasionally cry (good tears!), get caught up in the suspense.

And at the end of the book you can let out a great satisfied sigh - virtue is rewarded and all’s right with the world.

.. Now .. where’s my next read?

Lucy Emblem writes cozy English mystery novels featuring animals, village life, and gentle puzzles.

Why readers love Lucy Emblem’s stories …

“I wanted to reiterate that one of the best things about your series is the ethical and humane way the dogs are treated and trained. It's so refreshing. The second thing I most love is the way you write things about what the dogs do or "say" that are totally relatable to the reader.”
